EMS Our EMS responded on over 218 EMS calls last year. At the present time we have 14 certified EMS personal. Last year we sent 4 members to an EMT class. They should be testing soon. Best of luck to them. This year the department purchased a new AED. All of our personnel (Fire & EMS) are CPR certified. They are also trained on the AED. This next year we will be replacing our old ambulance for a more updated model. Fire Our department responded on over 147 Fire calls in 2007. At the present time we have 27 fire fighters. Our members are trained monthly to meet the state standards. Each year we send fire fighters to Bryan/College Station at A & M to train in fire fighting to better there skills and safety. The new truck is beginning to look like a fire truck. It has taken longer then we expected to put it together. Our goal is to have it soon responding on emergency calls. Last year the department added a new piece of equipment to the Jaws of Life. We are proud of what we have accomplished, and it is you that enables us to do this for you, the community. Auxiliary The ladies of the SVFD-EMS, AUX. are an outstanding group of individuals who work extremely hard for this organization. The ladies will have 1 garage sale this year and take donations from people like you to put those on. The Garage sale this year is scheduled for April 19. Beginning in 2008 we will no longer accept garage sale donations until the month prior to the sale. Remember we can use any good saleable items. The Auxiliary will take donations at this time for the April garage sale. These individuals also help with all of our fundraisers, without their help; especially with the Destruction Derby I’m not sure we could put it all together. The auxiliary was formed over 25 years ago and has over 15 members. If you are interested in becoming part of this amazing group, they meet the second Tuesday of each month at 10:00am at the Fire Hall (located at Hwy 71 @ CR 413). For information or to donate to the garage sale call Fran Laxson 830/693-2312, Peggy 693-6403, Patsy 693-2801 or Donna 693-4726. Check Out Our Website www.spicewoodvfd.com We now have a website for the community to check out what is happening in your fire department. The website has updated information, dates for our fundraiser, pictures, and valuable information such as, burn ban notices. You can down load derby information, such as drivers registration forms and rules. We are hoping to have derby rules & registration forms etc. on the web site in July. If you have any questions about the web site call any officer. ** Remember to call your controlled burns into the Sheriff’s Office** By calling in your control burns to the sheriff department, they can advise you if we are under a burn ban. It is against the law to burn if we are. Never burn when it is windy. It could be your property you save. If you do have an emergency call 911. REMINDER A GOOD WAY TO REMEMBER TO CHECK YOUR SMOKE ALARM IS AT DAY LIGHT SAVING TIME – WHEN YOU SET YOUR CLOCKS BACK OR FORWARD ALWAYS TEST AND CHANGE YOUR BATTERIES EVEN IF YOU DON’T THINK THEY NEED IT. The Spicewood Volunteer Fire Dept began as a service to the community in 1976. The department began with only one grass firefighting truck and one station wagon, the truck was donated by the Marble Falls Fire Department (which we still have) and the station wagon was donated by the Spicewood Beach Subdivision. Before there was an EMS if you needed to be transported to a hospital the dispatcher called the funeral home for transport. The membership of the SVFD-EMS peaked in 1985 with 50 members, and at the present time has 27 trained and dedicated members to serve the community. At the present time the department has 4 grass trucks, 2 pumper trucks (one used as a pumper/rescue truck) for structure fires, 3 tanker trucks and 2 ambulances. Tax Deductible Contribution Your support and donations is what helps the department to continue operating. Without your donations we would not be able to respond on your emergency calls. Remember that the contributions you send each year are what enable us to respond to emergencies. It helps us to maintain our vehicles and send our volunteers to trainings. Please help us to continue to help your community with a tax deductible donation to:
